this picture of me outside siam paragon (a huge shopping mall here) was in the new issue of playground magazine. in case you can’t read the caption, it says สงสัยพ่อหนุ่มคนนี้ขาดความอบอุ่น เดี๋ยวเหมียวน้อยจัดให้ which basically means “too bad this boy has nobody to love him, anyone interested should contact the magazine”. it’s a bit funnier than that tho because they are making a joke, the expression used to say nobody loves me kinda says that i don’t have any warmth, which is a joke because i have a sweater tied around my neck.

so in things in thailand are often much easier than anywhere else in the world. i have a maid clean my apt twice a week for $15 a month, when i called to get dsl installed the guy came over an hour after we hung up, when you go to any store or restaurant there are usually 15 people waiting to help you … that being said, sometimes things can take forever here too. stores might be staffed with 15 people, but if you have any slightly irregular question it will take all of them to decide that they can’t answer it.

late last week i had to go to the post office to mail some stuff to my mom, which should be a easy task. the first post office i went to didn’t have boxes in the right size for me, so i got on the train to go to another post office which i was guaranteed would have lots of boxes due to it being a larger store. unfortunately this bigger post office had about 10 people on staff but they were out of boxes, and i guess none of the people sitting around could go get them from another store. they told me to go to another post office, which was pretty close by but of course by now the traffic was horrible so the only way to get there was on the back of a motorcycle taxi. fortunately i was with a friend, so we each clutched a big shopping bag filled with about 30 pashmina scarves, hopped on the back of a motorcycle and made it to the third post office in time to get stuff packed up and sent. the cost to mail with 7-10 day delivery was $150, the cost for the box and for one of the staff to pack everything up was $1.
