21 September 2007bangkok, post location, thailandwhen i went to india i forgot my new yorker page-a-day calendar back in bangkok, and of course it has been loads of fun getting caught up on it. this cartoon in particular has stuck with me, mostly because of the buddhist subtext that it has. of course it seems silly to get into an elevator without desire to go up or down, but being happy in the present moment without looking to the future should be something we can do anywhere. the need to constantly do something and make every moment productive often just leads to headaches and less real work being done. by feeling that you always have to do something there is part of you which is saying you are not happy with what you are doing in the present, a cycle which can end up creating lots of unhappiness. so maybe someone who gets into an elevator with no destination in mind isn’t being silly, maybe he’s just really content … then again maybe he’s just stoned :)

i went to an exhibit at the chula arts center today called prana: art light space … which used video and light to explore the concept of breath, space and the soul. p’oum and i had talked about going for a few days and fortunately we went on the same day that joe brought my vidster home from usa. the vidster is this $40 kid’s camera that takes heavily pixilated video, which looks really cool. here’s my first attempt at editing some stuff together … i’ll probably be posting some more stuff over the next few weeks.
