file magazine published another of my photographs, spend some time on their site, they have great work. i’ll probably be posting less frequently this month, super-busy getting ready for exams. math next wed … which has been interesting. it’s all stuff i did before, but 13 years ago and the first round it was in english. learning to do math in a foreign language, presents the brain with all sorts of fun challenges.

    16 February 2008lukenews, politics

i don’t report on news items much, but this one is rather exciting.

    from the bbc

In a statement, he accused China of not doing enough to pressure Sudan to end the “continuing human suffering†in the troubled western Darfur region.

At least 200,000 people have been killed and two million forced from their homes in the five-year conflict.

Beijing has not yet responded to the move, which correspondents say is its first big setback in staging the Games.

A source in the Beijing Olympic Committee said a response was being discussed at the highest levels but had not yet been made public.

But the BBC’s James Reynolds in Beijing says the decision will anger and worry the authorities there.

Since Beijing won the right to host the Games it has always tried to keep China’s politics and China’s Olympics separate, he says, and it has attacked anyone who has tried to link the two.

Sudan, with its vast oil reserves, sells some two-thirds of its oil to Beijing.

In turn, Beijing sells weapons to the Sudanese government and has defended Khartoum in the UN Security Council.

As a result, China has been criticised for its links with a government ostracised by many for its role in the ongoing crisis in Darfur.

it’s no secret that i find most yoga advertising boring to say the least. yoga ads generally have a photograph of the teacher doing some difficult pose and way more text than most people will bother to read. another problem that i find in thailand is the lack of bilingual advertising, it’s often in english only for some reason. i guess photos of difficult yoga poses might have been exciting twenty years ago when few people had seen them, but by now pretty much everyone has.

i created these two posters to promote our mysore classes within the studio. i tried to use things like design, colors and font-choice to create something that had a calming feeling but was also eye-catching. the background photograph was shot with a pinhole camera along a snowy road in vermont. in the english version, i used soft healing colors like green and blue along with the non-serrif font helvetica. i also made sure to use some pink as it is our corporate color and then added our logo along the bottom. when creating the thai version, i decided to just invert the colors (with some adjustments). they will be displayed side-by-side with no gap between so the color opposites should be rather obvious.

i’d love to hear comments from people on them (they are 10†square). let me know if you get the concept, think it’s lame or just too arty for a mysore program.

i grew up in the northeast of the united states, a place that can be super cold. i eventually moved to san francisco, los angeles and finally bangkok. i’ve realized that i hate the cold but going back to visit it for a few weeks can be really nice. it hit me recently how the line between living and dead is blurred in the winter. trees appear dead but are really just resting from the cold, flowers wilt away and then come back and with the lack of sun many of us get depressed and withdraw inside.
shot with a yashica 125G and agfa rsx II film, in new york and vermont. below are three diptychs from the series, the rest are here.
